Freedom Festival celebrates the USA

Enjoy the “Great Wide Open” this Independence Day at the Lenny Brewster Sports Center from 2 – 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 4 with Room at the Top, a Tom Petty tribute band taking the stage from 6:30-9 p.m. All day park festivities include the Apple Valley Fire District Jr. Combat Challenge, multiple bounce houses and inflatable games, and a wide array of merchandise for sale. The Victor Valley Sunrise Rotary beer garden will be complemented by food booths including irresistible funnel cakes, kettle corn, fresh lemonade and barbecue.

Wear white and get a patriotic tie-dye or just cool off at 3 p.m. with the Water Spectacular featuring red, white and blue water “Free Falling” from fire hoses pointed towards the sky. The afternoon won’t be all that’s hot; our opening band is local favorite Caliente, playing from 2 to 4:15. The National Anthem and Color Guard Presentation is at 6 p.m. including a performance by some of our Apple Valley Idol Winners. Bring your worn and tattered American flags to any fire station between now and July 4 to be included in the Fire Explorers flag retirement ceremony at 8 p.m. And it may sound “Too Good to be True” but we have the best fireworks show in the desert choreographed to music starting at 9 p.m.

Lenny Brewster Sports Center is located at 21024 Otoe Road. Take Dale Evans Parkway 1.5 miles north from Highway 18. The park features 40 acres of grass, a playground and horseshoe pits. Bring your canopies and chairs, but please, no alcohol, pets or barbecues will be allowed in the park.
